Our Philosophy

VistaShift® is working to unleash the power of perspectives to transform the way the world does business.

In fact, we could say that with the proper perspective almost every business problem could be easily solved. The needed perspective is often not a single perspective, but more often an integration of other perspectives.

The reason this works is that when we ask our questions, we “Shift Your Vista®” and engage a different type of thinking. In fact, research has shown that you are using a different part of your brain when you answer our questions. We are helping people think differently than they do in their everyday job.

The information that is drawn out of this process is often classified as tacit knowledge, or the group of information that “you didn’t know you knew”.

That is why VistaShift has developed the Reinventing Doing approach. You can get work done, and by lifting up the view of the entire team, provide them with a higher perspective. This also allows a company to naturally adapt while it is doing work.

The history of VistaShift shows that there have been many changes to how we have delivered the solution, but the philosophy of VistaShift has not changed from the beginning.

Very early on we saw the incredible power of what we were doing and the potential for this to impact both business and personal lives of people.

Several years ago we were using the following as the description of why we do what we do:

VistaShift is working to unleash the power of perspectives
to transform the way the world does business.

For those of you who follow Simon Sinek’s work, this would be our “Start with Why” statement.

Perspectives are so simple, yet so powerful.
Perspectives are used in everyday language but not really understood.

Most people think they take into the account the perspectives of others when in reality we are actually wired in a way that we can’t. Our own ego and natural drive of existence ensure that we only see and rely on our own perspective first.

If you ask someone if they took a customers or co-worker’s perspective into their own work they will most often answer yes… because they think that they do.

There is great insight and power available to those who are willing to learn how to do perspective taking the right way, and truly see the world from more perspectives.

In fact, we could say that with the proper perspective almost every business problem could be easily solved. The needed perspective is often not a single perspective, but more often an integration of other perspectives.

The good news is that the perspectives that are needed are available in your organization. If you want to understand a customer’s perspective, you can get that from those closest to your customer; your customer-facing front line staff.

Many people ask us “If people are not good at taking perspectives, how can your process extract the information that is buried?”

That is one of the problems that the VistaShift software solves. It helps team members “Shift Your Vista®” take unique perspectives, (based on our patented perspective taking approach), and then compares the results with answers from more usual perspectives. This helps to determine what information is useful and where they are in a groove of their own thinking. This is a unique type of perspective dynamics called Vista Dynamics

The reason this works is that when we ask our questions, we are engaging a different type of thinking. In fact, research has shown that you are using a different part of your brain when you answer our questions. We are helping people think differently than they do in their everyday job.

We then use a Human Assisted Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm to carefully extract the valuable pieces from the answers. This activity also provides us with a diagnostic capability to see if and how deep a company is in a groove, and how well aligned the team is.

These are then packaged up in specific actionable outcomes for each team member to address an opportunity or a challenge that a company is facing. It also provides feedback on the team’s ability to “Step-up” and work together. This is why we call the solution the VistaShift AI Advisor. We provide your team with the best possible advice which has been distilled from these various perspectives.

The place where this problem is the most obvious is at the management level of organizations. With a world that is more complex and moving faster than ever before, organizations can’t change their collective view quickly enough, and companies are failing to adapt. When we recently spoke with CEOs, adaptation was one of their most pressing and challenging issues. We focused our solution on addressing this challenge.

Research has shown that people who are higher up the chain of command are less capable of seeing other’s perspectives. The fact that they are the furthest removed from the customer and they don’t have the capability explains why senior management needs the help of their front line staff.

The best use of perspective taking would be to integrate the “proper” perspective everywhere. Then you would always know the right thing to do in every situation. That is not practical, since it would be too disruptive to businesses to wait until you had the “perfect perspective”, but there is a way to slowly integrate perspectives work into what you do every day.

That is why VistaShift has developed the Reinventing Doing approach. You can get work done, and by lifting up the view of the entire team, provide them with a higher perspective. This also allows a company to naturally adapt while it is doing work.

There are numerous additional benefits of using a perspective taking approach for the team and the organization.

Teams naturally develop a consistent language and view of the things they are dealing with.
Research has shown that the more you use perspectives you can actually develop your perspective taking muscle and get better at it. Research has also shown that people who develop this capability have the capacity to deal with much more uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. This is a talent that is in great demand in today’s global, fast moving, and complex world.

The information that is drawn out of this process is often classified as tacit knowledge, or the group of information that “you didn’t know you knew”. We need to gather and categorize this very valuable tacit knowledge so that it can be put to use throughout the organization and not remain buried in the back of your team’s heads.
Together, all of these things help deliver the power of perspectives.
We are excited about helping companies use that power.

Those who adopt the VistaShift process as a way of doing business will have the potential to transform their organizations as well as the individuals who work there.

We couldn’t think of a more noble cause!
